The Nashville School of Historical Fencing was founded in 2015, and is the largest school of HEMA in the Mid-South area. We are committed to the goal of fostering the growth of HEMA in our region- through classes, workshops and tournaments. Led by experienced high level instructors and coaches, we take a strong pedagogical approach to the study of HEMA, implementing both historical and modern training methodologies. We place a strong emphasis on the physical culture swordsmanship requires and take our training seriously rather than casually. HEMA encompasses a broad spectrum and offers many avenues of study, our primary focuses include - the Longsword in the Germanic tradition, from 15th and 16th century sources, the Italian Rapier from the 17th century and 19th century British military Saber. Our training also periodically explores other weapons such as the Dussack, Messer, Sword & Buckler and Dagger. We currently open up enrollment/recruitment for new students 2x per year, typically in the Spring and Fall. The study of HEMA is rapidly growing and we are a thriving school and community dedicated to reviving the art of the sword… we encourage you to take up the sword and join us!
